Is Joker Nothing Without Harley Quinn?

IMG_20180913_153832_hdr[1]I decided to get out Suicide Squad and watch it again for the millionth time. I can very happily say that it is one of my favourite DC movies. Personally, I think DC are better at making TV series than movies. But they haven’t been too bad lately. And, yes. I do like Marvel as well. I am not one of those people will chose one over the other. I like both. There, I said it. But, out of all the villains, Joker was the best one. He wasn’t part of the main cast. But he made a big impact on me. I think it’s mainly because, this time, Harley Quinn was one of the main characters.

I’ve loved all the Joker’s over the years, Jack Nicholson was always my main one. That was until I watched Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker. Seeing him along side Harley Quinn was just perfect. It’s about time Harley Quinn and Joker were together. You read the comics, they’re together. You play the games, they’re together. They just go together like bread and butter. I honestly thing that Harley Quinn makes Joker a better villain. It’s the same in the games Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, you don’t see one without the other. What I don’t understand is why it took so long to put the two of them together in this way.

I can’t count the amount of times I’ve played the Arkham Series. I must be one of the few people who got upset when Batman walked out with a dead Joker in his arms, at the end of Arkham City. I couldn’t believe it. I mean, it’s the Joker. Joker can’t die. Well, apparently he can. I will say this, how they brought Joker into Arkham Knight was pretty clever. From the shock of watching him be cremated, to seeing him terrorise Batman as a hallucination, due to Batman being infect by Joker’s toxic blood in Arkham City, was just fantastic.  I’m pretty sure I spent a lot of my time looking for Joker while following through the main missions. Mainly because, in Arkham Knight, he’s simply hilarious.

IMG_20180913_153801_hdr[1]For me, though, the best Joker was the young Joker in Arkham Origins. He was sarcastically funny, very sadistic and every inch the Joker I knew and love. Now, in my opinion, the Joker in Suicide Squad was very similar to Arkham Origins Joker. Jared Leto portrayed him in the same sadistic and insane manner. Plus, the scenes in the movie showing how Joker created Harley Quinn and the kind of relationship they have together, is just like watching the two of them in the games.

Out of all the villains Batman faces in Gotham, and there are quite a number of them. Penguin, Poison Ivy, Riddler, Bane, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Deadshot, Killer Croc, to name a few. I’d include Cat Woman in there, but half the time I can’t work out if they’re enemies or friends with benefits. But, out of all them, Joker and Harley Quinn are the ones who have the most impact and have the ability to give Batman the biggest headache. Isn’t that the whole point, I mean, what’s the point in being a vigilante, if you don’t get a worthwhile challenge. I’m telling you, Joker and Harley Quinn are it. So, maybe Joker really is nothing without Harley Quinn. Looks like I’ll be getting the Arkham serious out again, just for the fun of playing them.
